Workplace accident involves electric shock, fall

If a person suffers an injury on the job, he or she is entitled to receive workers' compensation benefits in North Carolina. One man in another state was seriously hurt after being shocked and experiencing a fall. The workplace accident occurred on a Wednesday morning.

The man, age 23, was using a scaffold at nearly 25 feet above the ground. At about 9:15 a.m., he might have collided with a power line that had high voltage. At that time, the construction worker was shocked and fell from the protective bucket he had been using.

When emergency responders got to the scene, the worker was conscious. However, he was dazed and appeared to have serious injuries due to the accident. The man was stabilized before being transported to the hospital by ambulance. His condition was not immediately available following the accident.

Most businesses in the state of North Carolina have to buy workers' compensation insurance that covers employees who are hurt on the job. The benefits that come from this insurance include the coverage of necessary medical treatments following the workplace accident, weekly compensation that replaces a portion of the worker's lost wages, and payment for permanent disabilities and injuries. Another benefit includes payments for significant losses of earnings or reductions in pay. Unfortunately, the process of filing a workers' compensation claim can sometimes be cumbersome. Appropriate legal guidance may help individuals to successfully navigate the claim-filing process in an effort to obtain the full amount of benefits to which they are entitled.
