Workplace injury and illness hazards may exist in office settings

The dangers of workplace injuries are not only limited to construction sites or manufacturing plants. Offices can pose workplace injury dangers for workers as well. It can be helpful in any office, or other workplace setting, to ensure that employers and employees understand the prevention strategy that is in place to prevent workplace injuries.

To prevent workplace accidents, in addition to being familiar with regulations, it is important to understand the types of workplace hazards that may be present and place workers at risk of injury or illness. Potential hazards can include physical hazards; task-related hazards; environmental hazards; and design-related hazards.

One type of serious physical hazard includes fall hazards which can be a significant concern on a variety of different types of work sites. To help minimize fall hazards in an office setting, it is important to promptly clean up any spills on flooring and to properly secure all electrical or other types of cords. To help minimize hazards associated with job-related repetition, workplaces should be properly suited to workers which can include adjusting equipment to the proper height and needs of the worker.

In addition, it may seem obvious but maintaining a tidy working environment can also help minimize workplace injuries and ensuring that environmental concerns, such as air quality, are properly addressed can also help minimize workplace injuries and illnesses. For workers who have been unnecessarily harmed because of hazardous or unsafe working conditions, different options for relief may be available. Certain regulations require employers to provide a safe working environment for workers and legal remedies exist when employers fail to do so and injure employees as a result.
