1 dead, 1 injured following forklift accident

While all jobs in North Carolina hold some degree of risk, some people may be unaware of the many hazards that construction workers face. Specifically, some professionals claim that most incidents resulting in injuries or citations at construction sites occur as a result of falls. Unfortunately, a forklift accident involving a fall in another state has resulted in serious injuries.

The incident happened just after noon on a day in May. According to reports, the two victims were working at the site of an apartment development.  The victims were reportedly standing in a crate on a forklift that was being used to pass materials through a third-floor window.

Unfortunately, police say that the crate tipped, causing the two men to fall. One of the men, said to be in his 40s, passed away at the scene. The second man was transported to the hospital with injuries that are considered to be life-threatening. Officials claim that they do not know if the two men were wearing harnesses at the time of the accident. Investigators with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration were called to the scene.

While officials work to fully understand the events leading up to the accident, the victims -- including the family members of the men -- are left dealing with the fallout of the forklift accident. One family must plan and fund a funeral while the other will likely face significant medical bills. Because of the potential for workplace accidents such as this, employers are required to provide workers' compensation insurance coverage. To help ensure fair compensation, many victims in North Carolina ask for help from an attorney with experience with the process.
