Work accident at chemical plant sends 1 to hospital

A chemical company in North Carolina can be a dangerous place to work due to the materials employees handle on a regular basis. Even though workers may try to take the proper steps to prevent accidents, unavoidable incidents may cause serious injuries. A chemical work accident in a different state recently led one man to suffer serious injuries.

The accident happened on a recent morning when workers were trying to off-load caustic soda. They were taking it from a particular barge putting it in a tank for storage. However, some of it spilled, and a fire started, officials said. An estimated couple thousand gallons reportedly spilled out.

Fire officials responded to the emergency along with a hazardous materials team. One man ended up coming into contact with the soda and was taken to the hospital; officials expected that he would be treated and then released. Environmental cleanup professionals planned to work with the chemical company on cleaning up the soda. Officials at the plant also planned to investigate how the accident occurred. Federal and state safety agencies might get involved in this investigation as well.

When people suffer injuries on the job as a result of an unintended accident, they may be worried about how quickly they can recover physically. They might also worry about how they'll be able to support their families financially while not being able to work for several weeks or even months at a time. Workers' compensation insurance benefits fortunately can help to provide a sense of financial security for employees who are injured in a work accident in North Carolina.
