Workers' compensation helps injured North carolina workers

The workplace can be considered a jungle, as it may be teeming with so much activity as part of the business's efforts to make profits. However, with activity comes risks, as people can easily be injured while on the job. A work accident that causes injury to an employee can make the worker eligible for workers' compensation. Research shows, however, that the state of North Carolina has actually seen a decline in worker injuries.

The rate of worker injuries and illnesses in 1999 was more than five per 100 workers in the state. However, this rate dropped to just under three per 100 workers in 2012, experts said. The number of workplace accidents nationwide has also been decreasing over the years.

North Carolina appears to be safer than the national average. Reasons for the improved safety of today's workplaces include both federal and state employee safety laws as well as workers' compensation program requirements. The Department of Labor in North Carolina is particularly active.

North Carolina residents can find consolation in the fact that their workplaces are rated as being safer than many other places of employment throughout the United States. The fact of the matter, however, is that workplace injuries and illnesses still do happen. In this situation, an injured worker is entitled to workers' compensation insurance, which his or her company legally must purchase in order to cover the employee in such a situation. Being aware of all of his or her rights will enable an injured or ill employee to get all of the benefits he or she deserves following a job accident.
