Aerial lifts remain a constant fixture on many construction sites and these machines can play an integral role in helping workers in North Carolina and elsewhere perform job tasks at heights. However, when tasks occur close to active power lines, there may be some level of risk involved with using a lift and if the bucket sways and contacts these lines, the results may be dire. Two workers were injured after a lift hit a power line during a recent construction accident in another state.

Electrocution injuries

The incident reportedly occurred at the site of a construction project on a recent Monday afternoon. Reports indicate that two workers were performing job tasks using a lift when for reasons unknown, the bucket suddenly came in contact with a nearby power line. Emergency responders say that one of the workers was dangling from the lift hanging by a harness and they advised that they were able to rescue both workers and transport them to the hospital for treatment.

Reports indicate that at least one of the workers suffered electrocution injuries during the incident. The risks of electrocution and shock remain a common safety concern in the construction industry. Incidents involving similar issues can take a significant toll on one’s health and well-being. While there might be steps workers can take to mitigate the risks involved, sometimes it might be difficult to spot a safety hazard in time to avoid a potential disaster.

Advice on the options

A construction accident that occurs under similar circumstances could leave a worker facing various challenges, physical and financial alike. While the physical pain may ease with treatment and time, those who experience similar hardships may wish to know more about the available options to help protect their financial futures while facing substantial medical costs and a loss of wages during recovery. After the accident, a person in North Carolina could consider retaining the services of an attorney for advice in preparing to navigate the workers’ compensation insurance system, as well as any other outlet for aid that may be available.
