Fourteen students were taken to medical facility for treatment and the driver of a bus suffered serious injuries during a recent work-related car accident after the driver of a dump truck fell asleep behind the wheel in North Carolina. 

Drowsy driving crash 

Authorities say they received reports of a head-on crash involving a bus and dump truck on a recent Wednesday. Initial investigations indicate that the accident took place when the driver of a dump truck suddenly lost control and veered into oncoming lanes of traffic. The truck proceeded to crash head-on into a nearby school bus and a third vehicle.  

While investigating the incident, authorities claim to have learned that the driver of the dump truck had fallen asleep behind the wheel shortly before causing the crash. Reports indicate that up to 14 students were transported to the hospital for treatment, each of whom was released later that day. Emergency responders say it took them nearly 30 minutes to rescue the driver from within the bus and state that this person was admitted to the hospital with serious injuries.
