It might not be uncommon for children who take part in after school programs to spend some of their time on the school’s playground. While there may be adults nearby to watch over the kids as they play, these individuals can only do so much, and may have little to no control of what happens if a nearby vehicle veers off course and into the area. Several children suffered injuries after a driver crossed into playground during a recent car accident in North Carolina.
Law enforcement agents responded to reports of the incident at around 4 p.m. on a recent Tuesday. According to reports, the accident occurred when a driver was attempting to park her vehicle near a playground at a local school. Authorities advised that while entering the parking space, she pressed the gas instead of the brake and proceeded to cross onto the playground.
Reports indicate that there were as many as 20 kids on the playground at the time of the incident. Three of the kids were transported to a nearby medical facility with injuries, one of whom reportedly remains hospitalized. The accident remains under investigation and authorities have advised that charges have been filed against the driver who caused the incident.
Parents with children who suffer severe harm in a car accident of this nature may be left with questions about what took place and on the next steps to take to seek accountability in civil court. Following such an incident, a person in North Carolina could choose to retain the services of a personal injury attorney for guidance on the best course of action with which to proceed. An attorney can evaluate the incident and assist a client in preparing to seek the full amount of compensation entitled through the proper channels.
