Many avid motorcycle riders may be aware of the hazards that might lie in wait while traveling alongside other motor vehicles. While there may be some steps riders can take to help promote safety on their journeys, sometimes there might be little they can do to avoid a dangerous situation when confronted with the reckless actions of others nearby. One person has been arrested following a recent car accident that claimed the life of a 24-year-old motorcycle rider in North Carolina.

Fatal motorcycle crash

The incident reportedly took place on a recent Thursday as two motorcycle riders were traveling west on a local highway. Reports indicate that the driver of a pickup truck failed to yield the right of way before crossing through an intersection and proceeded to travel directly into the path of both bikes. The truck proceeded to crash into both bikes and authorities say the driver chose to flee the scene soon thereafter.

Reports state that one of the riders suffered fatal harm and passed away at the scene, while the other suffered only minor injuries. Authorities have advised that they were able to locate the driver of the truck and placed him under arrest. He is facing numerous charges in relation to the crash, including felony death by vehicle and driving while impaired.

Impaired driving and wrongful death

There might be few things in life as challenging to accept as suffering the loss of a loved one in a car accident involving an impaired driver. When the negligent decisions of another party lead to an untimely death, the surviving loved ones of the deceased may face an understandable desire for justice. Following such a loss, a person in North Carolina could benefit from consulting with an attorney for advice on his or her available legal avenues and on the best course of action to take to pursue the restitution entitled via the proper outlets.
