Illegal pass leads to fatal pedestrian accident

Attempting to pass another vehicle while driving along a two-lane road can be dangerous at times, and such maneuvers may even be illegal in certain areas. Illegal pass maneuvers could create a hazardous situation that places the well-being of those nearby at risk and the outcome of an ensuing crash could carry dire or even fatal repercussions. A pedestrian was killed during a recent car accident after he was struck by a nearby driver who veered off the road while attempting to navigate an illegal pass on a two-lane street in North Carolina.

Fatal pedestrian accident

Law enforcement agents indicate that the crash occurred at around 5:40 p.m. on a recent Monday. They say that the driver of a northbound vehicle was attempting to pass another car in a no-passing zone when he lost control and veered off the road. The vehicle reportedly proceeded to hit a nearby pedestrian who was walking on the shoulder of southbound lanes.

Reports indicate that the 49-year-old pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident. Authorities say that the area was marked as a no passing zone and they say that charges will be filed against the driver pending the completion of their investigation. Losing a loved one under similar scenarios is something no family should have to endure and those who experience such challenges may face an understandable desire for justice.

Seeking justice

Surviving family members who lose a loved one in a car accident due to the actions of a negligent driver may have questions about the next steps to take to seek restitution in civil court. Fortunately, there are attorneys who can examine the accident and provide a person in North Carolina with guidance on all his or her available options for legal recourse. An attorney can help a client develop a strategy to seek the full amount of compensation entitled and guide him or her through every step of this process.
