Impairment suspected in car accident that injured 10

Drivers who operate a motor vehicle while under the influence may be less capable of handling a variety of driving scenarios. Lack of judgment and poor coordination are just two examples of possible safety hazards involved with similar forms of negligence. Impairment is suspected as a contributing factor in a recent car accident that involved multiple vehicles and left up to 10 individuals with injuries in North Carolina.

Chain reaction collision

Authorities reportedly responded to reports of the crash on a recent Tuesday morning. They say the incident began when for reasons unknown, the driver of a tractor-trailer suddenly crashed into the side of a second semi-truck and two nearby vehicles. This prompted a chain of events involving up to nine vehicles altogether, causing one person to become trapped within a vehicle and prompting one of the tractor-trailers to erupt into flames.

Authorities have advised that the injured individuals were rushed to nearby medical facilities for treatment. According to initial investigations, authorities say the driver who caused the crash may have been distracted at the time. They also say that impairment is suspected as a contributing factor. The investigation remains underway.

Serious injuries

A car accident involving the presence of impairment or distraction runs the unfortunate risk of leaving everyone involved with severe or even permanent injuries. Individuals in North Carolina who suffer serious harm under similar scenarios may wish to exercise their rights to seek compensation in civil court, but they might not know how best to approach the process. Fortunately, there are attorneys who can provide a person with advice on his or her available options and assist in navigating every stage of the subsequent process.
