Industrial accidents: Fatal incident under investigation

Most employers in North Carolina are dedicated to protecting the safety of their workers. However, when working with heavy machinery, industrial accidents can still happen. In fact, a man recently lost his life in a work accident in another state.

The incident happened one morning on a day in early December. The 44-year-old male victim was working at a facility owned by Majestic Marble and Granite. Reports indicate that he was using a hose to spray a water trench that surrounds an automated machine. Unfortunately, he was reportedly pushed into the wedge by the equipment and crushed by a beam.

His co-workers initially contacted 911 about an arm injury. Though he was conscious when he was first discovered, emergency responders believe he may have went into shock as a result of his injury, which led to cardiac arrest. He passed away after he was transported to the hospital. Part of the business closed following the accident to allow the Occupational Safety and Health Administration to conduct an investigation. Local authorities are also investigating the incident.

Unfortunately, a family is now left facing the holidays without their loved one; while the emotional implications of such a loss are likely clear, many families also struggle financially as a result. Funeral expenses, lost wages and medical costs can quickly take a toll on grieving families. Because industrial accidents can occur even with multiple safety measures in place, employers in North Carolina and across the country are required to provide workers' compensation insurance benefits. However, the process can be difficult -- especially for those grieving due to an unexpected loss. Fortunately, a professional with experience with such cases can help families seek the benefits they deserve.
