Power plant shut down as part of work accident investigation

The vast majority of workers in North Carolina and across the country report to their job site as required, ready to work in a way that ensures their overall safety. As such they follow all safety protocols. Unfortunately, they could still be at risk of injury from a work accident if equipment malfunctions, for example.

Unfortunately, two men in another state recently lost their lives in an accident at work. The victims were reportedly employees of Westar Energy who were working at a coal-fired generating plant, Jeffrey Energy Center. The plant burns coal to heat water; the steam from the water is then used to turn turbines that generate electricity.

The two men were in the area in which steam is transferred from the boilers to the turbines. Unfortunately, equipment malfunctioned, filling the room with steam. Both men were transported by helicopter to the hospital but died later on as a result of injuries suffered. The plant is shut down as an investigation into the accident is completed to ensure that the safety of other workers is not at risk.

While many of the details of the work accident are unclear, reports seem to indicate that the men may have been victims of malfunctioning equipment Now, the families of the two men must come to terms with the unexpected loss of their loved ones and the resulting financial complications that may ensue. While they may be entitled to workers' compensation insurance benefits, they may feel unprepared to undertake such a process as they cope with their traumatic loss. Fortunately, there are experienced professionals who can help. Many who have deserved such benefits in North Carolina sought out such help.
