Man hospitalized following workplace injury

All workplaces hold some degree of risk. While employers and employees in North Carolina can take certain precautions to prevent these accidents, they still occur, often leaving workers suffering from unexpected financial complications due to a workplace injury. In fact, a worker in another state was recently hospitalized following an incident.

The incident that sent the man to the hospital happened on a day in late March. According to reports supplied by the 31-year-old victim's wife, he was struck by a forklift and pinned to the ground. He was reportedly dragged for a short distance as well.

The man underwent surgery and is listed in fair condition. The president of the scrap metal recycling company, Conservit, where the incident occurred indicated that it is under investigation, both by the company and state officials. The incident is the second at the facility in March; a 51-year-old man died after another incident involving a forklift.

The man suffering from a workplace injury in the most recent accident may have a long recovery ahead of him. In addition to the medical bills that may be piling up, the family may also have to cope with lost wages. Some workers in North Carolina and other areas of the country find themselves unable to return to work in the same capacity following an accident such as this. Fortunately, workers' compensation insurance benefits can help them with the costs associated with injuries suffered in the workplace, including expenses related to training for a new position. Because negotiating with an insurance company is probably the last thing on his mind while he recovers, he may opt to seek help from a professional with experience with the process.
