Dump truck driver killed in work accident

When aspects of a North Carolina work environment are poorly designed, some workers may have to risk their personal safety to utilize them. For example, the placement of a card reader at a work site in another state may be questioned following a recent work accident in another state. Police reports indicate that the incident resulted in a fatality.

The incident that resulted in the death of a 60-year-old man reportedly happened at approximately 8:30 a.m. on a day in mid-April. According to reports, he was attempting to pick up a load of sand in a dump truck at Trinity Materials Company. However, he reportedly fell from the vehicle as he attempted to swipe his entry card over a card reader.

While no one witnessed the accident, a sheriff's deputy investigating the incident claims that reports indicate it is common practice for drivers to stand on the running boards of their trucks or the outside gas tanks because it may be difficult to reach the card reader while sitting. Officials claim that the deceased victim was standing on the outside gas tank of his vehicle while it was still moving. He was reportedly knocked off by a pole and was run over by the truck as it kept moving.

Unfortunately, a work accident can happen for a variety of reasons. Though measures can be put in place to prevent them, they can still leave victims or their surviving family members to deal with the financial consequences such an accident can create. As a result, states require employers to provide workers' compensation insurance benefits which can help with a variety of the costs associated with such an accident. Many victims in North Carolina choose to seek guidance from a professional with experience with the compensation process as they pursue a fair settlement.
