Work accident leads to fatality

When a person in North Carolina and other areas of the country does the same job everyday, some of the tasks associated with it often becomes second nature. However, no matter how adept a worker becomes at a certain task, he or she remains at risk of being involved in a work accident. Unfortunately, reports indicate that an incident at a chicken processing plant resulted in the loss of a worker's life.

The incident happened one Sunday afternoon in early March. According to reports, the 40-year-old victim was an employee of Delight Fabrication. The company had been hired to complete some work at the House of Raeford Farms.

The man was reportedly a forklift driver and was doing so when officials claim that he lost control of the forklift. Unfortunately, the machinery plunged off the dock on which it was located. While the worker is said to have immediately jumped off the forklift, he reportedly became pinned between it and a high beam. He was transported to the hospital where he ultimately passed away as a result of injuries suffered in the incident. Officials believe that he died as a result of internal injuries.

As is typical of a work accident that leads to a fatality, the incident remains under investigation by both police and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. While the results of the investigation may help prevent similar incidents in the future, they will do little to help the family of the man cope with the grief associated with their loss. In addition to the emotional response, many families in North Carolina who have lost a family member in a workplace accident also face financial hardship. As a result, states require that employers provide workers' compensation insurance. Many families have found that consulting with an attorney with experience with such benefits can help them through the process of seeking maximum compensation.
