Woman charged after man suffers on-the-job injury

The risks to those working in work zones on interstates is high. Because of this, multiple measures are put into place to attempt to warn drivers about an upcoming work zone in order to protect workers. Despite this, people continue to suffer from an on-the-job injury because of drivers who fail to heed warnings on roads in North Carolina and across the country.

Police apparently believe that such was the case following a recent accident that sent a man to the hospital. According to reports, the victim was working on the left shoulder of an interstate, working on guardrails. He was in a work zone at the time.

Unfortunately, reports indicate that a vehicle driven by a woman swerved off the road, striking the worker. He was transported to the hospital where he was admitted and is reportedly in stable condition. Although state police claim that the incident remains under investigation, the woman has since been charged with driving with a suspended license, failure to maintain control and reckless driving. News reports indicate that she was being held at a jail because she failed to comply with a court order.

Even treatment for minor injuries at the hospital can easily result in medical bills that put the person in a precarious financial situation. When people suffer an on-the-job injury, they are often forced to miss work, resulting in lost wages in addition to medical bills. Fortunately, North Carolina requires that employers provide workers' compensation insurance coverage. These benefits can help victims of such accident manage the financial fallout created by their injuries. A professional with experience with the compensation process can help seek fair compensation.
