OSHA investigating fatal work accident

It is in the best interest of employers in North Carolina and across the country to ensure that their employees are safe while they complete their work responsibilities. Unfortunately, even employers that go to great lengths to protect personal safety can experience a work accident. In fact, OSHA is set to investigate a recent fatal accident in another state.

Reports indicate that the incident that led to a 51-year-old man's death happened at Fuyao Glass America Inc. A call for help reportedly came in at approximately 5:20 a.m. on a day in March. The victim was discovered trapped between a forklift and a pallet of glass weighing just over a ton.

An autopsy reportedly revealed that the man died as a result of blunt force trauma to his neck and head. His death was ruled an accident. While a representative for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration confirmed that it was investigating the incident, the organization declined to provide any additional comment pending the end of the investigation.

Unfortunately, a work accident such a this often leaves families attempting to cope with the news of the unexpected death of their loved one. To complicate their overall situation, such a loss often places a financial burden on these families. However, employers in North Carolina and across the country are required to provide workers' compensation insurance benefits in the event of an accident such as this. Often, these benefits will extend to certain surviving family members and cover lost wages and funeral expenses. An attorney with experience with such compensation can help grieving families fully understand the compensation to which they may be entitled.
