Investigation underway after North Carolina work accident

All occupations hold some degree of risk. Even someone doing something as simple as cleaning a minor spill can ultimately be involved in a serious work accident. In fact, officials in North Carolina are currently investigating a fatal incident.

The accident happened at approximately 1:30 a.m. on a day in early January. According to reports, the incident occurred at S&D Coffee & Tea, one of the largest producers of coffee in the United States. Many details about the accident, including the identity of the victim, were not immediately released.

Police say that the victim was attempting to clean up a spill of coffee beans near a stack of three pallets that were loaded. Unfortunately, one of the pallets reportedly fell onto the worker, killing him. Officials from the company claim that they are "devastated" about the accident and are working to support the deceased victim's family as well as other employees.

Local police officials are currently investigating the work accident, but the Occupational Safety and Health Administration will also investigate the incident. In the meantime, the victim's family is likely coming to terms with their loss. Many families in North Carolina who suffer such a loss also experience a large amount of stress due to the concerns related to their financial situation. Fortunately, employers are required to provide workers' compensation insurance coverage, which can help families cope with funeral expenses and lost wages. Because of the emotions already associated with such a loss, experienced professionals can help grieving families through the compensation process.
