Construction accident remains under investigation

The vast majority of people in North Carolina recognize that there is some degree of risk in their chosen profession. However, no one expects that the shift to which he or she is reporting will be the last. Unfortunately, officials in another state are still working to fully understand the events that led to a fatal construction accident.

The incident happened one afternoon in early November. According to reports, police and other rescue workers were called to the scene at approximately 4 p.m. The victim, who was reportedly operating an asphalt compactor, was a 37-year-old male construction worker.

The machinery is believed to have rolled over, pinning the man underneath. Once extricated, he was taken to the hospital but ultimately passed away as a result of the injuries suffered in the accident. As there were employees from several different companies at the construction site, it is unclear who employed the victim. The incident is being investigated as an accident by both homicide detectives and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

Unfortunately, families in North Carolina and in other areas of the country are financially and emotionally unprepared for a fatal accident such as this. Because of the potential for a construction accident, and accidents in other occupations, employers are required to provide workers' compensation insurance coverage, which can help with the financial aftermath of such an accident. However, most people who deserve such compensation are unfamiliar with the process, prompting them to seek professional guidance as they pursue proper compensation.
