Emergency workers called to scene of work accident

The vast majority of employers in North Carolina go to great lengths to ensure the safety of their workers. Their efforts, in conjunction with the efforts of employees, help to prevent workplace accidents. Despite these measures, however, people can still become injured in a work accident.

Unfortunately, emergency responders were called to the scene of a recent industrial accident in another state. The incident occurred one morning on a day in April. Reports indicate that a worker was trapped under a steel fixture.

When they arrived at the scene, emergency workers and other employees were able to extricate the man. He was transported to the hospital but ultimately passed away as a result of injuries suffered in the accident. Officials have not released the man's identity as they wait to  make sure that his family members have been notified. A fatal workplace accident typically results in an investigation by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration; the man's employer could face citations and/or fines if OSHA finds that safety and health standards were violated in the events leading up to the accident.

Unfortunately, a work accident such as this often leaves families facing both emotional and financial ramifications. Lost wages in combination with funeral expenses often leave families struggling to pay their bills. Fortunately, North Carolina requires employers to provide workers' compensation insurance benefits to help workers and their families in the event of an industrial accident. Because most families grieving the loss of a loved one are unprepared to negotiate with an insurance company, experienced professionals can help them seek a fair settlement.
