Man suffers leg injury in workplace accident

All occupations in North Carolina and across the country hold a certain degree of risk. While employees can take precautions to protect themselves, not all risks are completely avoidable, often leaving workers struggling to recover from a serious injury suffered in a workplace accident. Unfortunately, one out-of-state man suffered a leg injury following an accident that occurred at an industrial facility.

The incident happened at approximately 9:30 a.m. on a day in February. According to a fireman who was at the scene, the victim was unloading steel from a crane. Unfortunately, it is believed that the crane shifted, dumping the steel.

According to the same emergency responder, almost 3,500 pounds of steel landed on the man's legs, pinning him. Although rescue workers were able to relieve some of the pressure, it took almost an hour to extricate him. Reports indicate that the man was conscious and talking. While his current condition is unclear, one first responder says that the man isn't doing very well.

Unfortunately, a leg injury can have a significant impact on a person's life. It may require several operations and rehabilitation to recover, and, even then, the victim may never be the same. If an injury results in an amputation, victims must relearn how to do many things. Because medical expenses and lost wages can take a serious toll on those suffering due to a workplace accident, states require employees to provide workers' compensation insurance benefits to help following such an incident. Many people in North Carolina who deserve such benefits often seek the guidance of an attorney who has experience with the process and can help them pursue a fair settlement.
