Details unclear in work accident requiring medflight

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration, recognizing that there are many potential hazards in a workplace, promulgated health and safety standards intended to keep workers safe. Unfortunately, even when these standards are followed, a work accident can still occur. Injuries suffered in such an accident can leave workers in North Carolina and other areas of the countries suffering both physically and financially.

One out-of-state man is likely facing a long recovery after he was recently injured at work. Although many of the details regarding his accident are unclear, reports indicate that he was the victim of an accident involving a forklift. The accident happened one afternoon on a day in February.

The severity of his wounds necessitated his transport by helicopter to the hospital. A family member reports that his chest, including his ribs, were crushed. Doctors are waiting to perform surgery until after they have made a determination regarding internal injuries to the man's organs.

Due to the severity of his injuries, the man will likely require a lengthy hospitalization. During this time and the recovery period that follows, he may also have concerns due to lost wages. However, all states -- including North Carolina -- require employers to provide workers' compensation insurance coverage in the event of a work accident resulting in injury. These benefits provide for medical costs, lost wages and even job retraining if a worker is unable to return to work in the same capacity. Because the victim of this accident and his family are likely focused on his recovery, a professional with experience with these insurance benefits can help them through the process.
