Work accident at county fair leads to critical injuries

Work accidents in North Carolina sometimes occur due to unforeseen circumstances, especially when people are working with heavy equipment. A work accident recently took place in another state at a county fair. The accident happened while a worker was tearing down a ride.

According to authorities, a 35-year-old man was atop a bumper car ride with two other men. Police said the men heard the ride start operating all of a sudden. When the two other men turned to the 35-year-old man, they saw him lying on the roof.

The injured man was taken to the hospital with injuries and was said to be in critical yet stable condition. Doctors put him in a medically induced coma and planned to start waking him shortly thereafter if the test results were positive. A friend of the man's family said that the man's heart had not been damaged in the accident.

A work accident can take an emotional, physical and financial toll. Fortunately, workers' compensation insurance is designed to help workers who have been hurt on the job in North Carolina and other states. Workers' compensation benefits can help to cover a percentage of an injured employee's regular wages, and he or she can also get the medical treatment necessary to heal as quickly as possible. It is within the rights of an employee who has been hurt at work to pursue the full amount of benefits to which he or she is entitled, and an attorney experienced in this area of the law can provide timely advice and assistance along the way.
