Workplace accident leads to loss of feeling in legs, arms

Employee injuries in North Carolina are not always avoidable no matter how careful they are at work. An employee in another state was recently injured while . on the job. The workplace accident occurred on a Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities received a call about an accident at a metal supplier. When crews got to the scene, a man was found to be partly trapped in a forklift. Officials said the machine tilted forward and threw the man into its windshield head first.

Following the accident, the worker complained about not having any feeling in his legs or arms. While the man was being placed in a helicopter, he said he then began to feel tingling in his extremities. He was transported to a hospital for treatment.

Employers in North Carolina must purchase workers' compensation insurance designed to cover employees who suffer injuries or fall ill while on the job. Through this insurance, an employee who has been injured in a workplace accident may receive a percentage of his or her regular income as well as the medical treatment he or she requires to get well. Employers cannot fire workers simply for filing workers' compensation claims, and workers typically receive benefits no matter who was at fault in the accident. Employers also benefit from this insurance in that they are largely protected against being sued by their workers. It is within the rights of an injured worker to pursue the full amount of benefits to which he or she is entitled following a work-related accident.
