North Carolina worker is killed in fall from tree

There are a number of workers in industries that may not assume or considered they could suffer an injury or illness in a workplace accident, or even be killed in a fatal work incident. Unfortunately, even occupations that appear relatively safe have risks and dangers associated to them. All workers in North Carolina and other states in the nation could potentially be victims in a fatal work-related incident.

A man was recently killed in the state's capital while working on a tree. According to preliminary reports, he fell 45 feet from a tree and was pinned underneath one of its branches. The man worked for a company that provided residential tree services and landscaping.

According to North Carolina Department of Labor officials, the man was working on a tree when a branch snapped and caused him to fall. The department of labor has begun an investigation and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration or OSHA was also at the accident investigating the fatal workplace fall. The company the man worked for operates through the United States and Canada. According to the United States Department of Labor, the company has been cited by OSHA three times since 2010.

The company is also conducting an investigation and released a statement that their thoughts surround the family of the man who was killed. Following a fatal workplace accident, families may feel overwhelmed by all the important considerations they face. Because added stress can be placed on the family concerning financial and other types of damages they may suffer, different legal options may be available to assist them and to protect them. Workers' compensation survivors' and death benefits may be available to surviving family members and, in some circumstances, additional legal options may also be available.

No family should have to suffer the unexpected loss of a loved one in a fatal workplace accident. If that situation comes to pass, families of workers engaged in a number of different industries enjoy legal protections and options to help them through an overwhelmingly difficult time.
