Employee injured in work accident involving chemical spill

At times, a mishap on the job in North Carolina can be highly dangerous -- hazardous enough to send a worker to a medical center. This type of incident recently occurred in another state when an employee became injured in a work accident involving chemicals. Both HAZMAT professionals and firefighters had to respond to the business where the accident reportedly took place.

According to authorities, the employee was trying to transfer liquid to a different vessel when a spill happened; the chemical was identified as a nitric hydrochloric acid. Between 16 and 20 ounces of the dangerous fluid spilled. This accident took place at around 10 a.m. and caused the worker to make contact with the hazardous chemical.

Officials said the liquid can burn a person, and the chemical’s fumes may generate a dangerous gas if the fumes touch water. In the case of the employee, it appears that a vapor was generated from the chemical. The company was able to handle cleanup of the hazardous chemical itself. The condition of the worker was not immediately known following the incident.

A work accident can cause a person to suffer serious injuries that force the individual to put his or her life on hold for many weeks or months. For instance, the person may not be able to work or resume his or her regular activities until he or she has recovered from the injuries. Workers’ compensation insurance benefits are so important because they replace most of the employee’s wages while he or she is trying to heal, thus helping the worker to avoid financial ruin. It is within the rights of injured workers to seek all of the benefits they’re legally entitled to in North Carolina.
