Truck injures construction worker on North Carolina highway

Authorities report that a truck accident on Interstate 85 in Randolph County injured a construction worker. The June 26 incident reportedly happened nearby the exit ramp of Finch Farm Road by mile marker 108. According to reports, a construction truck backed up and mistakenly drove over a 25-year-old construction worker as the man was repairing a guard rail. A medical helicopter transported the injured worker to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for treatment of unknown injuries. However, it was reported that the worker was conscious and alert when he was in the hospital emergency room.

When they responded to the scene, troopers rerouted traffic in the south lanes of the highway while the roadway was cleared. It was not reported if there were other vehicles that may have been involved in the accident. Highway officials reported that the investigation was ongoing.

Following a job injury, North Carolina law entitles injured employees to be eligible for several types of benefits provided by workers' compensation. These benefits may help to cover an employee's workplace injury losses such as medical costs, lost wages, long-term care and medication.

While employees have the right to file for this insurance coverage, sometimes employers will discourage them from filing for it or will even attempt to deny coverage. In the event an employee should confront these difficulties, an attorney who handles workers' compensation claims may be able to guide the injured employee through the lengthy filing process in an effort to bring about a fair compensation to cover the costs related to the workplace injuries. In the event the employee dies from a work-related accident, the employee's family could file a claim for death and burial benefits.
