Electrocuted worker may receive workers' compensation benefits

With most people in the United States living paycheck to paycheck, the thought of being unable to work suddenly can be a real fear for many American workers. This is why getting injured on the job can be a devastating situation for employees in North Carolina. Fortunately, workers' compensation is available for those individuals who have been hurt while at work and need financial assistance to get through what can be a life-altering ordeal.

One worker is in this situation in an out-of-state case after being injured on the job. The energy worker was working on utility tires in a tunnel with another employee. However, he touched a live wire with a tool.

This caused a flash, which is when light combines with heat as a result of electricity moving from a high-voltage area. The injured worker, who was struck in the face with fire, suffered first- and second-degree burns. He was slated to be hospitalized for two days, authorities said.

Unfortunately, no matter how careful an employee tries to be, sometimes he or she has an accident. Whether an accident is a worker's fault or the employer's fault, the worker is eligible for workers' compensation insurance benefits in North Carolina. The benefit of this type of insurance for employers is that companies that buy this insurance can avoid being sued by injured workers. It is within the rights of a person who has been harmed at a work site to pursue all of the insurance benefits they are entitled to get, which can help to cover their lost wages during a tragic work accident situation.
