Investigation into fiery truck accident continues

Every job in North Carolina and across the country holds some degree of risk of injury. Some injuries could take years to develop from repeated motions while others can occur instantaneously as a result of a motor vehicle accident. Unfortunately, a truck driver in another state recently lost his life in a truck accident that resulted in a fiery explosion; the accident remains under investigation.

The incident reportedly occurred one morning on a day in May. According to police, a truck was attempting to exit a highway when it overturned. Police say that reports given by witnesses indicate that a blaze started almost immediately after the accident occurred.

The driver died. Additionally, police believe that gas that leaked as a result of the crash contaminated the drainage system. The incident prompted the evacuation of approximately 250 people from the area. Local police are still working to fully understand the accident, but reports indicate that the deceased driver was an employee of Williams Tank Line. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is also likely to conduct an investigation.

Regardless of the number of safety precautions in place, workplace accidents can still occur. While they typically result in an investigation to help prevent similar incidents in the future, family members are still left to cope with the unexpected loss of a loved one should the incident result in a fatality.  To help with funeral expenses and loss of wages, employees in all states are required to provide workers' compensation insurance benefits. Because of the complexity of the compensation process, many who deserve such benefits in North Carolina often seek guidance from professionals who have experience with it.
