Man faces long recovery following workplace injury

Workers in all professions in North Carolina and across the country take precautions from certain known risks in their day-to-day routines to help prevent injury. Unfortunately, not all risks are known, often taking employees unaware. For example, workers in another state are unsure what caused a recent accident that resulted in a workplace injury.

The incident happened one afternoon on a day in mid-March. According to a representative for C&D Waste -- the company that employed the victim -- the worker's head became pinned between the cab of an excavator and its boom. The representative claims that the man was responsive at the scene but did not know how the incident occurred.

Other workers at the site were able to provide first aid until emergency responders arrived at the scene. Specialized equipment was used to extricate the man from the equipment. The same company representative claims that the man has since undergone surgery but has a long road to recovery.

Medical bills due to surgery and a hospitalization can quickly become overwhelming. When combined with lost wages while a person recovers from a workplace injury, the financial consequences can be devastating. Fortunately, North Carolina requires employers to provide workers' compensation benefits that help with the ramifications of a workplace accident. An experienced professional can help these workers seek the compensation to which they are entitled. The knowledge that a person will be able to meet financial obligations can help him or her focus on their recovery rather than how bills will be paid.
