Workplace accident involving wind generator leads to man's injury

An unexpected workplace accident in North Carolina can quickly lead to medical bills and the loss of wages, for which many workers are simply unprepared. Fortunately, workers' compensation is designed to help employees who find themselves in such situations. One man in another state recently suffered injuries in a workplace accident involving a wind generator.

The accident happened on a Sunday at a little before 9:30 a.m. It took place at a wind farm that was in the process of being constructed. The man was working on repairing a wind generator blade and suddenly plummeted about 126 feet. That is when he landed in some mud on his back.

After the fall, the man was conscious and able to speak with the rescue personnel. He was taken to the hospital. Another man who was working on the generator was wearing a safety harness, but he was trapped at the height from which the first worker fell. Fortunately, he was able to free himself and get into a construction basket to be lowered to the ground several minutes later.

Most companies in North Carolina must provide workers' compensation insurance so that injured employees can receive a portion of their weekly wages during the time they are unable to work following a workplace accident. Workers' compensation insurance also enables injured workers to get the medical treatment they need to heal as quickly as possible. Any worker who has been hurt on the job has the right to file a workers' compensation claim and pursue the maximum amount of benefits to which he or she is entitled.
